“Auf der Freiheit” – a vision is designed

The name „Auf der Freiheit“ is not an invention of advertising and marketing specialists. Since the Middle Ages „Auf der Freiheit“ or „An der Freiheit“, as it was called even earlier, states a piece of land, which is located only 800 meters east from the cathedral on the waterfront. In a beautiful southern exposure there emerges a new attractive neighbourhood in Schleswig – for about one thousand old or new residents.

Until then, the ADAC Wikinger Rallye is able to make use of the vast area. Already in 2008 a public special stage took place here and thanks to the generous appropriation made by the team Vivendi the area becomes the linchpin of the whole event in 2009.

“Auf der Freiheit” – a rally vision is developed

For its service section the ADAC Wikinger Rallye uses various flats of this 50-hectare area of former barracks. The former leisure-building is used for catering, media, looking after guests, as the point of acceptance for documents and also as the site for the victory ceremony. Another significant area is needed for a public special stage that has to be passed through three times. The planned route is designed as a circular course with a length of approximately 1,5 to 2 km. In the course of the rally this circuit will be completed with two entire rounds plus exit each time.
The following final offers a special highlight: As showdown four to six cars will coevally take on at least four rounds hunting for the last few seconds of the ADAC Wikinger Rallye 2009. “To our knowledge there has not yet been realized a special stage in the DRM that is directly located at the service centre and in close vicinity of the media centre and the rallye-finish” rejoices organiszer Rainer Haulsen over the great possibilities. The succeeding sketch indicates the design of the public test. The exact course has not yet been fixed. A water passage and a „drift curve“ will be built. Here and there, however, civil engineering has to be undertaken before this course can be used.
